Two Awards at SEGD Global Design Award in the US

We are very proud to share that the “Mammoth Model” interactive exhibit at Climeworks visitor centre was awarded a Merit Award in the Digital Experience and Sustainability Impact category at the SEGD Global Design Awards in San Francisco last week. The Sustainability Impact Recognition is awarded to those who demonstrate leadership in sustainable design through material innovation, process integration, and environmental sensitivity.

Sometimes, a digital experience project transcends its category and has all the judges simply say, ‘Beautiful.’ To do that with an installation at such an intimidating, technical facility is an achievement. Jury Comment

The Mammoth Model
In the spring of 2024, Climework launched its second commercial DAC+S plant, Mammoth. Parallel to the plant installation, a new Visitor Centre was opened at the Mammoth facility to educate visitors on the carbon capture process.

Gagarin designed and installed an engaging model representing the Mammoth. Through tangible knobs, visitors can access in-depth information about the plant's modules and their functions in the carbon capture process.

The table was designed using birch and concrete-like materials to match the architecture of the Visitor Centre. Its design is minimalist and contemporary, seamlessly fitting into the space's overall aesthetic.

This interactive installation has been a great success; earlier this year, it received a gold award from FÍT (The Icelandic Graphic Design Association), a bronze award from the European Design Awards and a finalist at the ADC*E Awards 2025.

This project is a great case of elegantly integrating digital media into a physical touchpoint. The material choices are excellent, and the interactive digital element is aptly used to demystify complex information for visitors. Jury Comment
