Gagarín is proud to announce that The Mammoth Table, an interactive installation designed for Climeworks, has been awarded Bronze in the Digital Installations category at the European Design Awards 2025.
Gagarin designed and installed an engaging model representing Mammoth, a commercial carbon capture facility, for Climeworks at Hellisheiði, Iceland. Through tangible knobs, visitors can access in-depth information on the various modules within the plant and their functions in the carbon capture process.

The Mammoth Table
Turning a knob illuminates parts of a semi-transparent image projected over the model, highlighting the intricate network of pipes and facilities where CO₂ flows. This interactive experience allows visitors to follow the journey of CO₂ through various stages, accompanied by text and illustrations that provide explanations for each step. These visual elements make the complex scientific processes accessible and engaging, encouraging a deeper understanding and connection to the technology.
Even when not in active use, the model remains an attraction with a meditative feel. Particles flow from the edges towards the air-capturing centre, and the names of each building are highlighted. The interactive design, featuring animated circles around the birch knobs, draws visitors in and encourages them to engage with the exhibit.
The table was designed using birch and concrete-like materials to match the architecture of the Visitor Centre. Its design is minimalistic and contemporary, fitting seamlessly into the space's overall aesthetic
Birch makes the experience approachable and over time, as it wears, it quietly records the presence of every visitor. Magnús Elvar Jónsson, Designer & Partner
Gagarín on Stage: Designing from the Middle of the Atlantic
As part of the festival programme, Lemke took the main stage with the talk “Designing from the Middle of the Atlantic,” reflecting on how our Icelandic roots, between lava fields and ocean air, shape the way we design immersive, meaningful experiences for museums, exhibitions, and visitor centres. The talk explored how this environment shaped our approach to content, interaction and storytelling. With three decades of experience in digital media and a long-standing focus on interactive exhibitions, the studio has become known for creating award-winning work defined by its tangibility, clarity, and emotional depth.
Huge thanks to our team, our partners at Climeworks, and the European Design Awards jury. This recognition means a lot.
