Total Solar Eclipse
Reykjavík, Iceland
For UTmessan 2026, one of Iceland’s leading technology fairs, Gagarín designed and developed an immersive experience for Origo inspired by the phenomenon of a total solar eclipse.
The objective of the installation was twofold: to use the eclipse as a metaphor for digital transformation, and to educate visitors about how a total solar eclipse occurs, in anticipation of the total eclipse visible in Reykjavík on August 12, 2026. Through light, shadow, and interactive mechanics, the installation translated both astronomical alignment and technological ecosystems into a clear spatial narrative.

In the interactive experience, visitors were challenged to align the Earth, Moon, and Sun correctly in order to trigger a total solar eclipse. Only when the three celestial bodies were precisely aligned did the eclipse occur, revealing how alignment, timing, and balance are essential in both nature and digital infrastructure.
Rather than showcasing isolated products, the installation used the eclipse as a powerful metaphor for transformation. Just as a total eclipse requires perfect alignment, the experience suggested that meaningful progress depends on the precise coordination of core elements. The celestial event became a symbol for how stability, security, innovation, and growth must converge to create a truly transformative impact.
Developed in close collaboration with Origo and astronomy communicator Sævar Helgi Bragason, the installation combined scientific insight with intuitive, playful interaction. The experience reached approximately 1,500 conference delegates and an additional 12,000 visitors who attended the public event at Harpa Concert Hall, creating a vibrant platform for learning, dialogue, and shared curiosity.
