Archaeology for All
San Simon, Slovenia
At the archaeological site of San Simon in Slovenia, you will find one of the best-preserved and explored remains of a Roman seaside villa. It is considered a significant cultural site from the golden era of the Roman Empire. This project is called: AS - Archaeology for all. The revival of the Archaeological Park Simonov Zaliv and the leading partner is the Institute for Archeology and Heritage of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Primorska.
Gagarin produced an interactive map solution as a part of the interpretive center that was built at the site in San Simon. By picking a topic (a puck) and placing it on to a station in-depth information appears on the projected map, and by turning the pucks users navigate within space and time exploring life in Roman times.
The map installation allows multiple users to simultaneously explore 20 different topics from the archaeological excavation site of the Roman villa, and various interesting topics connected to Roman times such as agriculture, geology, trade, sailing and culture in and around Slovenia.
