Japan Expo 2025: Behind the Scenes

We are excited that some of our behind-the-scenes shots can be shared. Recently, the Gagarin design team journeyed to Zurich to test a projection designed for the Nordic Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka with other partners from the design team.

In the Nordic Pavilion, we will have a central installation in the Nordic Circle. It's really starting to take shape, and our expo team is working full speed to ensure the Nordic Pavilion experience will be as memorable as possible. The installation will feature a stunning whirl-like paper structure with a film showcasing the seasons of the Nordics.

Exploring the tangible qualities of paper is essential: examining its texture, weight, and durability. Observe how it moves with the breeze. Determine which printing techniques enhance its presentation. Consider strategies to reinforce the edges for durability. Decide on a color for the frame that complements the overall design.
Its visuals will shift from subtle to vibrant, inviting visitors to journey into the story of Nordic life, sustainability, and forward-thinking design. Team Exponex
Inspired by the traditional Japanese Enso circle, representing limitless potential, our exhibition will fill the pavilion with Nordic-inspired images, videos, and stories. Drawing from nature’s forms—galaxies, plants, bird murmurations, and fish schools—these synchronized and graceful movements invite us to reflect on the unseen communication at play.

The curated art installation captures the poetic shifts of seasons and the powerful natural phenomena that define the Nordic landscape.

Team Exponex
The contract for designing and implementing the exhibition at the Nordic Pavilion for the EXPO 2025 Osaka was awarded to Team Exponex, with Exponex, Wintenex, Habegger, Kvorning, Rintala Eggertsson Architects and Gagarin onboard. The pavilion will represent the unity of the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.

The pan-Nordic team of designers has created an intriguing story of life in the North, of values, and of the ever-present relationship with nature. The exhibition will take the visitor on a journey through Nordic societies, where trust and collaboration have always been binding ingredients. Important industrial solutions on a global scale will be incorporated into the experience.
