Gulatinget Exhibition Design

The project

Gulatinget is Norway's oldest and largest regional Thing site. It was an assembly and a court of Law in 900-1300 a.d. and it´s lawbook is the foundation for other Nordic law. Gagarin was faced with the challenge of designing an exhibition on the Thing site where there were neither artifacts nor much known about the Thing in general. The exhibition concept delivered is made up of 10 intuitive, interactive installations where visitors change their experience into knowledge. These include:

• The history of Gulatinget (Law) - Interactive Timeline
• Thingsites and Norse culture - Interactive map
• The Morals of the Law – Interactive word cloud
• Crime and punishment - The Values of the people, where visitors “weigh and measure” the morals of the time
• Mirror to the past – Hologram/Mirrorgram of the Lögretta (court)
• The function of the law – “Trial” - role playing game
• The defence system - Interactive “Sail” of a viking ship displaying various information
