Making of a Nation - Heritage and History in Iceland

In the design of a new exhibition, interactive media was included as a form for interpretation. The aim of using interactive storytelling is to bridge the gap in the history where no tangible relics have been left behind.
challenge The aim for Gagarin was to communicate, in an interesting and compelling way, information of Iceland’s cultural heritage from the time of its pioneering settlement to the present day.
solutions
This interactive multimedia title consists of 15 individual presentations, containing both media rich content and detailed information, text and photos. The individual presentations are presented on touch-screen around the recently renovated Museum. Each exhibit covers one theme with several topics. Amongst the themes are Origin of Icelanders, Medieval writings and State formation.
A great number of 2D characters have been drawn up. Several artifacts have been created in 3D to demonstrate its purpose and context. Great emphasis have been put on creating an easy to use and interesting interface. The presentations are contained in a dynamic framework allowing implementation of additional content (Flash).
